Some history:

The Northern Rhodesia Regiment (NRR) cap badge, produced by FIRMIN, represents the British colonial military presence in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). The NRR was established in 1933 as a territorial infantry unit within the British Army, primarily recruited from local African soldiers under British officers.

The cap badge, manufactured by FIRMIN, a renowned British military insignia maker, typically featured an African elephant standing on a scroll inscribed “Northern Rhodesia Regiment.” The elephant symbolized strength and the region’s rich wildlife, while the British crown above it reflected colonial authority.

During World War II, the NRR played a crucial role in campaigns across East Africa, Madagascar, and Burma, fighting alongside other British-led African regiments. After the war, the regiment continued serving in internal security and regional defense.

With Zambia’s independence in 1964, the NRR was disbanded, and its personnel were integrated into the newly formed Zambia Rifles, later evolving into the Zambian Army. The NRR cap badge, especially those produced by FIRMIN, is now a prized military collectible, preserving the history of Northern Rhodesia’s colonial military legacy.
